whispers of light | workings of splendor is a site-specific textile installation created as a culmination of Artist Catherine Reinhart’s MFA studies at the University of Kansas – Textiles in March 2012.

This immersive exhibition consists mainly of a pillar of cloth descending from a skylight. This pillar includes several layers of fabric, produced using a wide variety of textile techniques including four panels of Shibori dyed silk, three 40 foot weavings using monofilament, and an inner layer of constructed cloth created using a combination devoré (or burn out), screen printing, hand dyeing, and free-motion stitching.

Visitors were welcome to enter and interact with the installation to the degree that they were comfortable. The progressive and immersive nature of the installation was modeled after the Jewish Tabernacle and influence by contemporary Christian trinitarian theology.
