Valley Forge Fabrics celebrates its 40th Anniversary in the Textile Industry! Dan & Judy Dobin speak of how it all began – plus growth in the hotel industry.

A Salesman’s Dream

Back in the 1970’s, Dan Dobin worked for a small textile company as a traveling textile salesman. As he traveled with mock ups, fabric samples, and stage curtain paraphernalia, he envisioned great potential within the hotel industry. It was then that Dan & Judy Dobin decided to start Valley Forge Fabrics!

Valley Forge Moves to NYC

In 1977, with their 3 children, Mikey, Danielle, and Diana, Valley Forge Fabrics opened its doors in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Valley Forge then relocated to New York City in 1978 and had 2 additional daughters. NYC was now their new home-base.

During 1980, Dan and Judy were approached by a few hotels to purchase velvet products that they had sold to movie theaters. They happily agreed, and decided to dive head first into the hospitality industry. Needless to say, hospitality became the main source of business for Valley Forge – within a decade it would become their only business.

Valley Forge launched its first running line fabric collections in 1991.This initial launch was to make 50 sample books, and send to the top 50 companies to select fabric for hotels. This was just the start of something that would continue to grow – and still growing.

Fort Lauderdale Bound

Valley Forge then moved from NYC to Fort Lauderdale where they currently reside business.

In 1994, daughter Diana, joined the business and is now Co-President along with their son, Mickey. It has truly been quite the adventure and is now a family business. Innovative decision-making is now being influenced by multiple generations which created a unique dynamic and perspective. Valley Forge continues to push the envelope as a textile industry leader.

Since 1997, Valley Forge has graduated to more running line items; from sheer and drapery to the launching of new product categories including their first major grouping of FRESH® products (Fabrics Redefining Environmental Standards for Hospitality). VFF is now the largest supplier of decorative fabrics for the hospitality industry as well as standing strong as being a sustainable steward.
