Glucomannan is a water-soluble dietary fiber. Like other soluble fibers, it’s believed to promote weight loss in several ways: It’s very low in calories. It takes up space in your stomach and promotes a feeling of fullness (satiety), reducing food intake at a subsequent meal.
Research has shown that the more viscous or gel-like a fiber is, the better it seems to work on the three mechanisms that affect appetite: mechanical (physically taking up rooms in the gut); hormonal (controlling appetite hormones), and transition time (slowing down the absorption of food).
