Detainment of main opposition leader criticized for being pro-Russian
Ukrainian President Zelensky announced that Viktor Medvedchuk, the leader of the main opposition party, known for his closeness to Russian President Vladimir Putin, was detained.
Zelenskiy shared a photo of Medvedçuk in handcuffs in his post on Telegram.
Stating that the Ukraine Security Service (SBU) carried out a special operation, Zelenskiy said, “Congratulations! We will share the details later.”
Medvedchuk, known as the leader of the Opposition Platform for Life, known as Ukraine’s second largest party, was sentenced to house arrest in May 2021 on suspicion of treason.
It is claimed that Medvedchuk, who allegedly escaped from house arrest after the start of the war in the country, is also the godfather of Putin’s daughter.
